One of the best 35mm lenses ever!

I have a lot of 35mm lenses for the Sony A7 series (I currently use the R4). This Zeiss lens is now my favorite 35mm lens. There are some issues with the lens (e.g. the corners are dark when shooting wide open) but overall it's a great lens, very, very sharp (even on a 61MP sensor) and most of all I love that rendering! It has the famous Zeiss 3D view.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • So far so good

One of the sharpest 35mm lenses

This Zeiss ZM 35mm f1.4 display Microscopically sharp in my test and the sharpest lens ever. I have used Sigma 35mm, Loxia 35mm, Rokinon 35mm AF and Leica Elmarit-R 35mm, Contax Distagon 35mm, Contax 35mm ZE, Canon 35mm IS, Nikon 35mm G etc. None of which didn't come close to him. The color reproduction is simply stunning, and the most striking feature is the contrast, which clearly makes every object stand out, best - 3D pop or micro-contrast. It outperforms the Leica Elmarit-M 28mm or any…

This lens is top notch and I highly recommend this lens

This lens is on par with the comparable Leica 35mm f1.4 FLE lens. I have had both lenses and see no difference in image quality between the two lenses. I will say that the Leica lens focus ring is a bit tighter; The focus ring on this lens is a little lost and tends to have a bit of unwanted movement. Regardless, this lens is top notch and I highly recommend it. As an added bonus, this lens's focus ring is a more traditional way of circular movement compared to a Leica lens, which uses a…

A fantastic balance of exceptional performance and great character.

This lens is as good as a fast 35mm lens can get. I also have a Voigtländer 35/1.2 II and it throws it completely out of joint. Incredibly sharp opening and ever sharper closing. The bokeh is really very pleasing, the colors and contrasts typical of Zeiss glass are trendy and really pleasing. It is larger but significantly lighter than the Voigtländer. If you want a smaller 35/1.4 with the same performance your only other option is the Leica Summilux FLE and this lens is several times more…

A masterpiece, one of the finest 35mm lenses ever made.

I am using this lens on the Sony A7r III via the Techart Pro adapter. This gives me pretty fast autofocus. It also allows me to use face detection and eye AF. Why did I buy one of the most expensive 35mm lenses just to fit a camera it wasn't designed for? Draw this lens. Image reproduction is excellent with incredible color accuracy and sharpness. While this lens is technically imperfect at Sony FEmount, the images are extremely artistic and cinematic. The lens is also relatively compact…

Competitors Leica 1.4/35 Summilux FLE

As good as it gets. I've been using this lens for three years now and within a week of shooting I already knew my search for a 35mm M mount lens ended here. While it's not the world's smallest 35mm lens, its optical superiority and build quality make up for it. When it comes to size, everything is relative. It's still smaller than any non-M 35mm lens. Here's what you get: 1. Excellent overall image quality2. Nice bokeh3. Amazing resistance to ambient light. Best flare control of any M.4 lens…

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • No mold required
