It's more of a cap that looks like a hat. If you're buying it for a costume, that's fine, but if you like the old-school style, just buy a proper hat. The little black dots on the mesh are just curved brushes, easy to detach; I didn't like them so I took them off. It comes with a headband that goes through a loop at the bottom of the hat, but you can easily remove it with a hair clip.

Brilliant product. I bought this for a fundraiser and it fits the theme perfectly. I'm only giving the cap 4 stars because I had to unscrew it to keep it on my head and attach it securely to the headband. The crocodile leather clip inside is at such a weird angle that I couldn't clip it to my head. The actual quality of the pillbox hat is low, some kind of plastic covered with felt which I didn't expect. The fit of the hat wasn't great, but the overall look was amazing.

I ordered this charm hat in black and was so excited I ordered another in red. While these little hats are obviously not premium in terms of material, for the price they will make a great addition to the 1950's style dresses that I like to wear to parties.
