Safe and fun for snakes!

The main reason I use this bedding for our snakes (sand boas and corn snakes) is that it is safe and non-toxic for them, even if they eat a little it won't hurt or so. They are also easy to bury. Tunnels don't collapse. I just clean up, remove any bedding that gets wet or has feces on it and replace it with fresh ones. I only have to completely change my sheets twice a year when I get clean right after pooping. The scents don't stay.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not the best

Great bed for small pets!

We buy this for our pet rats as there isn't much dust on the aspen. They love to dig in it and it's nice and soft for them. We clean her cage every day and completely change the bedding once a week. We love being able to buy a 24 liter bottle as we go through a lot of them. We're told that sometimes wooden beds can harbor mites, so as a precaution we freeze each bag for 24 hours should they turn up. We will love and use these bedding as long as we have rat pups.

  • This is amazing

Choice of fossil substrate

I used several substrates when I was Mr. Horace (H. nasicus/Hognose); Too bad I just started with aspen. Though he spends inappropriate time crawling through the branches and pretending to be an emerald boa constrictor, deep down my pig is a burrowing snake, and he digs a lot. I noticed that he often uses the same tunnels and this is a great option for him. The aspen bedding holds the tunnels very well and doesn't smell at all. It also looks good for a semi-arid enclosure and can easily be…

Change to change

I actually buy this to improve my soil to be more breathable for the roots, absorb moisture, water less, cause less root rot and it's all natural and great quality for the price. And acid-loving plants like it also run in tree trunks, since it is wood, and release tannins when they decompose. This is generally good for plants as lower pH means better nutrient uptake (add calcium if possible, look for chicken groats). But I use it for all my indoor and outdoor plants, especially those that like…

Pros
  • Best for plant and soil mulch" Alright!
Cons
  • Good but not great

Safe ball python bedding and easy to clean!

Note that the substrate for other reptiles (e.g. lizards) is not always safe for snakes, which may inadvertently eat it with their food. Aspen litter is snake proof and this large bag will last several months in our 20 gallon terrarium. Snake droppings are easy to find and remove, keeping the rest of your bedding fresh. We've never had an issue with odor and our kites seem very comfortable. (We have 2 young pythons in a shared terrarium). As a bonus, when it's time to change the bedding, it's…

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • There are problems

Improve your reptile's experience!

Well, "I" don't really like it, but Stryker, our striped king snake, seems to enjoy it. His tongue used to be in and out about 15 times a minute, now he has up to 20-30 flashes a minute except after meals when he shuts down all systems for a day. It's better than the tried and true shredded newspaper, believe me this stuff is hard to clean and sticks to glass. At the same time, we throw most of it in the trash, squirt the rest out of the hose onto the street and let it run to the neighbor's…

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Useless features
