Intro: I'm a musician (music recording/production), video editor, graphic designer, etc. and my 15.6" monitor handled all of these tasks with ease. borrowed my family's desktop monitor when no one was using it), but I got by just fine with a 15.6" screen. Until I started 3D modeling the game I make. I quickly realized that a 15.6 inch monitor would not fit. So I started looking for monitors. At first I was looking for a 16" monitor. I didn't need anything fancy. Unfortunately, all the cheap 16" monitors I've seen seem to be of questionable build quality. My friend recently bought a second monitor (it's programmer) so I asked him which one he bought as he definitely does as much research as I do when it comes to shopping. He hooked me up to this monitor line. It's 23.6". At first I didn't think that I wanted something big or fancy - when I used my family desktop monitor as a second monitor (it's probably 21 or 22 inches) I found it too big compared to my 15.6 inch laptop. So I kept looking for something smaller but of the same quality. Of course, these monitors weren't much cheaper than 23.6" monitors and didn't have as many add-ons (IFS, HDMI, Tilt, VESA mount, etc.). I went to the same friend's house and used his 23.6 inch device. It was HUGE compared to him, but having all the extra workspace was certainly nice. At some point I started thinking about how much I watch Netflix and that if my girlfriend and I watch something, we should watch it with my laptop on our laps. I knew if I had a big monitor I could use it not only for work but also for watching Netflix. (FYI, I don't have cable and we have a couple of TVs that I could use, but they are all old and small so they may only work with a DVD player or VHS). After several monitor-hunting sessions that made me regret at 4am, I finally settled on the 23.6-inch ASUS. Factual review: I've had the monitor for a few days now and I really like it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much 3D modeling. in a few days, but I watched some Netflix videos (the monitor is clearly visible from the other side of my room when watching Netflix, which bothered me and I'm very happy about that) and played some video games I'm not Hardcore gamers so to be honest any monitor will work for me, but being able to play at 1080p is cool, although again I can't say that matters very much to me. Standard graphics chip so initially I don't play games on ultra high settings or even games with high visual quality was the only IPS monitor with HDMI I could find in the price range. It's not that I need HDMI, I just liked that option if I ever get a HDMI compatible device (like xbox, playstation etc, I don't see a console but who knows) it would suck if I did couldn't use every monitor I have and one of our small TVs. Luckily I now have that option. It came with no dead pixels. The screen is slightly different in color than my laptop's screen, but that's not a big deal. I suspect this is because the ASUS monitor is of better quality than my laptop screen (HP Pavilion dv6). The monitor also has a lot of settings that I haven't figured out yet other than switching between the presets (Game, Theater, Standard, etc.). The default settings are fine with me, although I plan to experiment with other settings to see if I can get more out of it. I'm sure I could get it to fit my laptop screen. I read that a lot of people lost their $20 rebates. I haven't submitted mine yet, I probably will tomorrow. Yes, that $20 discount made me more drawn to this monitor, but to be honest at $156.44 it's still a lot, so even if I don't get the discount, yes, I feel cheated (and could use the extra $20). ), but any other monitor in this price range would not be as good. As we said, cheaper monitors either lacked build quality or size, and they didn't even come that much cheaper (maybe $30 off). I see it as an investment in my work, so I've decided to get the best I can afford (and need). I look forward to continuing with this monitor and can only imagine how much more efficient (and less frustrated) I will be with it. that's a lot of work. I'm also planning to mount it above/behind my laptop so I can look at it while I work instead of turning my head 45 degrees to see it because it's so big! Totally recommended, not only for what it can do, but I'm sure it will last. UPDATE: I just received my $20 VISA card from ASUS in the mail the other day! Two months later I still love this monitor. At $136.44 it was a steal!
