Description of ⚡️ Enhanced Lightning Arrestor/Surge Protector for CB Ham Two-Way Radio Antenna | UHF PL-259 Male to SO 239 Female RF Coaxial Connector Adapter

A great surge protector to protect your life, equipment and even your home from the hit. High quality construction, reliable Wide-Band Performance from DC ~ 3 GHz,very Low RF Insertion Loss less than 0.2dB. UHF PL-259 Male to SO 239 Female adapter with ground screw connection for easy install. Run a piece of heavy gauge copper wire (8 or 10 gauge) from the grounding screw on the side of the arrestor to a 3 foot minimum length grounding rod driven into the ground. Arresters should be installed as close as possible to the equipment to be protected, often at the point where the coax cable enters the building. They can also be installed near the antenna for additional protection.

Good product - good value for money

Lightning/surge arrester well made, installation went smoothly. Luckily my antenna hasn't been subjected to a power surge or lightning strike, but it's nice to know it's there and offers some protection. This is a good product at a good price.

Do not over-tighten the grounding screw

Cheap metal alloy in screw, screw breaks/shears very easily. Do not overtighten and be careful when tightening. I would recommend using a collar and avoiding the screw. However, the price is right. Let's hope the gas discharge works and I never have to find out if it doesn't work.

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • So far so good

A good way to access the coax ground shield is with a quality component.

The only reason for 4 stars is that the connector cable that came with it is not designed to connect 8 gauge copper wire. Instead, I simply used a longer screw and a couple of washers to physically and mechanically attach the wire directly to the body of the arrester.

Lightning Protection

Well made and looks very durable. Its specs show it can handle a lot more power than most other spark gaps. Best of all, my SWR went down a bit with this spark gap compared to the clutch that was replaced. Install a significant grounding rod so this arrestor can protect your equipment and home!

Pros
  • User Friendly
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging

Good coax shield ground point and ground rod connection!

I have this lightning rod because it has SO239 and PL239 connectors to fit the antenna line and a ground lug which makes it a good termination for my coaxial counterpoise (see picture). So far it has worked fine as a ground rod connector and my VNA shows it is not an impedance issue along the line. There was no lightning/static so I can confirm this feature but should work as advertised.

Bad design or poor workmanship?

Poor design or poor workmanship? It's hard to say, but this unit fell apart in my hands installing it. Upon opening the box, I immediately noticed that the male end of the PL-259 and female end of the SO-239 were not parallel to the barrel assembly. However, I tried the install on the PL side and it didn't do more than half. Upon removal, the entire contents of the barrel crumbled and the female sleeve fell out of the SO-239 insulator. I then saw that both halves of the brass center conductor…

The ham man measures them - and they are good!

I was looking for a pair of lightning rods to install a new ham radio and antenna and I needed one that had enough thread depth and a nut built in so I could thread it to a bulkhead through a wide strip of copper , leading to 3 ground stakes that I install. They seemed to fit the bill, were inexpensive, and had a nice option to screw directly ONTO THE COUNTERTOP on the side of the body (not the radius) if I needed to. I took a chance and bought two. They arrived quickly (Revain Prime) but I…
