Lifespan less than 6 months

I bought it in January 2021. And it worked when I got it. was great. Haven't used it in months and tried to use it yesterday, couldn't read the DVD, put in the latest blueray it played, couldn't read it. Couldn't read dozens of discs. Less than 5 months. and dead

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some flaws

Great external Blu-ray Ultra HD 4K drive

The drive itself is awesome! Unfortunately, the overbearing copy protection enforces HDCP v2.x, which means you're unlikely to be able to play the disc with a dedicated graphics card. Extremely evil and stupid.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • No paint needed

Pioneer BDR-XD07UHD

The device works great, no problems. Cybermedia's bundled software package makes it relatively easy and inexpensive, but it immediately forces you to update almost every component. The supplied cables are white and the device is black, and the cables are a bit short for my liking. I would also like to see a USB-C connector on the drive rather than a USB3 Micro-B connector.

Pros
  • Nice look

Doesn't work with AMD or ARM processors for UHD 4K

Only plays UHD 4K on an Intel processor computer. I only have AMD and ARM. Movie studios are full of idiots in love with DRM. In order to watch UHD 4K movies I bought in that resolution, I had to pirate them. Why would anyone buy this product when movie studios render it useless and encourage their potential customers to piracy instead? This thing is a fancy rock to me.

Pros
  • Good
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

In order to play UHD 4K disc, it is important to do so.

Before you buy, download and run the Intel(R) Processor Identification Utility. In the Security and Reliability section, look for Intelยฎ Software Guard Extensions (Intelยฎ SGX). If it is not listed, you cannot install the required SGX software. In this case, the drive is no different from non-UHD drives. Other than that, it's a nice, compact, portable device. I wish I had done my homework first, the only reason I bought was for the UHD playback. Without this feature, the existing 8 drives Iโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Very Good Value
Cons
  • Unbelievable Price

Records great discs. . . They just don't know how to play them.

Attention - the device is smooth-running and runs quietly; it makes a fast and accurate firing. I can verify this because I was able to play it back on my computer using the same recorder/player. But that's where the good news ends: a Blu-ray disc will not play on a consumer Blu-ray player. I tried burning to different discs (Verbatim disc "M" as well as "regular" BD-R). And I've tried playing the recorded discs on multiple Blu-Ray players (from different family members). It always appears asโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Some small things

Will NOT work with AMD processors

I saw that someone posted a question about whether this product will work with AMD. Maybe they meant AMD GPUs, I'm not sure. To clarify, this does NOT work with AMD processors. Playing 4k Blu-ray HDR discs requires Intel "SGX" (Software Guard Extensions) which doesn't work on AMD platform (maybe it can be hacked/rigged somehow, but I'm talking about "standard" functionality ). 3 computers I tested this disc on with Cyberlink PowerDVD 20 Ultra. The software that came with the drive (PowerDVD 14)

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubt
