Great little inexpensive device

I used this on my home made forge and it really helped me to keep track of the internal temperature of both the fuel and the crucible. Good work!

Pros
 • Nice packaging
Cons
 • Hard to say

Temperature rising

I'm glad I finally got it. I got it because it heats up higher so I can use it in my homemade metal smelter. As soon as the weather permits, I go out and use it.

Pros
 • Comfortable
Cons
 • Not sure

Better than expected for the price

I'm learning blacksmithing and blacksmithing, being able to get the most accurate temperature really helped me identify the 'color' of a particular one to learn the temperature range. It's also great for knowing how hot my forge is at a given propane PSI, knowing the temp of my quench oil, and knowing the temp of a piece of steel; Once it's no longer red, it can still be 600F(+) and look completely black.

Pros
 • Very good value for money
Cons
 • There are flaws

The instructions are terrible. Here's what you need to know:

After installing the battery, pull the trigger to turn it on. degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. Press UP to turn on the backlight. Hold the trigger and press the triangle * to turn the laser on or off. When measuring temperature with an IR thermometer, each material has different reflective properties that require accurate readings. This is the emissivity. Look at the table in the guide for the basic emissivities for different materials or look at the line. To set the emissivity, with the

 • So far, so good

I bought it for metalworking as it goes up to 2732 degrees. These are my first thoughts after first use. Likes - Good design, rubber grip feels good in hand. - A distance ratio of 30:1 means it has a small beam. The beam is framed by two laser spots (you can choose one or none) so you can see what you are measuring. This allows you to measure in a narrow area behind objects. The high temperature range allows me to measure hot metals in the range I need. This is two to three times higher than…

Very inaccurate, see fine print further down the listing

Bad: The listing states +/- 2% accuracy in the textual description at the top of the listing. However, there is an additional box further down the list with more details, clearly marked with an asterisk. This appears to be legitimate fine print as there is no apparent dilution of the original list of fine print. The listings in the fine print give +/- 7.2 F < 32 F and +/- (2% + 3.6 F) for temperatures > 32 F. This means that at room temperature (70F) +/- 5F errors will be displayed. My…
