This was an investment as we bought these whole house phones, voicemail and 5 additional sets. I bought them a year ago, the quality of this phone is excellent, the buttons are nice and big, the buttons are made in such a way that you can't see them well. This is not a phone for the elderly. The phone has audio amplification for a future hands-free phone, but not just for general use. Phone clarity is terrible, muffled and crackling, doesn't understand what people are saying.

My mom is hard of hearing (or can she hear?) Anyway, according to Verizon technology, the phone line to her bedroom is "corroded." I've already bought her a Clarity D714 which supports additional phones (which I noticed when I bought it). It connected in 30 seconds, set to max ringtone and max volume via a very intuitive menu. And my mother is glad that she has a phone in her bedroom again (and that she can play messages from the answering machine.

I have purchased several of these phones advertised for the hearing and/or visually impaired and unfortunately they all have obvious flaws. This model has an accelerator button that inexplicably has to be pressed every time you answer/use the call. The default is VERY output mode, which my mom can't hear at all. This item was purchased for my stubborn but sweet 89 year old relative. Both love to use the phone, but neither admits they REALLY need hearing aids. They also kept leaving their old phones "unplugged" since neither of them could see well, and sometimes didn't press the off button. Enter Clarity D704HS. My mother is 90 and we are beginning to see some issues with the technology. I bought this phone to use as an extension to another base and extension cord.
