Do not read this for outdoor sports and games

Good yo-yo. But really, let's see what a bad yo-yo does. Bad Yo-Yo: It has no rope. It doesn't rotate. It spins like after a long drink in a noisy nightclub two hours after you lay down. Illuminated. Well, it doesn't glow either. Who needs a glowing yo-yo? Let your own skills shine, not cheap tactics like lights.

Pros
  • Alright!
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Pathetic compared to "Merlin " yo-yo

I have boys and they both wanted a yo-yo. One boy chose this yo-yo and another bought Merlin's yo-yo. Both claim to have a bearing in them (which they both do), but Merlin's yo-yo can spin for up to a minute if thrown correctly. You are lucky enough to get 10 with Duncan. Too much internal friction to make this yo-yo worthy of anyone but a beginner.

  • Decent performance

  • No performance

Featured! for yo-yo

This is an inexpensive entry-level yo-yo. Both the male and female threads are metal, as is the bearing. The "Starburst Response" system is a plastic star pattern built into the inside of each half, near where the string is first wound onto the stem. It's simple and works well. On the other hand, the yo-yo doesn't carry much weight and therefore doesn't store much energy, making it difficult to perform tricks longer than 5 or 10 seconds. Also, when there are two strings between the halves (as…

Big Yo-Yo; Not for beginners

Advertised as an advanced yo-yo. Seems like bad reviews usually forget about it. It's a lot harder to get back, but the trade-off is that the ball-bearing axle allows this yo-yo to sleep MUCH longer than others. (I regularly get over 20 seconds.) There is a learning curve and I have bought other models for my kids to learn from. Once they get the hang of it, it will be an interesting next step. For the purists, I understand why you might not like it. However, it's a nice, fun alternative if…

Fun return but not a very long throw

It's just a responsive plastic yo-yo, but even then it doesn't spin for very long. The star-forming reaction is likely to blame. Starburst is the etched plastic inside the yo-yo that creates enough friction to make the yo-yo spring back. On the plus side it's maintenance free, but on the other hand it shortens spin times and isn't really good for recoil. A responsive plastic yo-yo such as the Magic YoYo D2 (a third) costs about the same and is much better. However, if you're serious about the…

Good yo-yo for $5. A solid yo-yo for those just starting to master the yo-yo

I was a kid in the 90's and then I had the original Butterfly. I thought it was the best yo-yo I had back then. I had a lot of crappy Duncan yoyos as a kid until I got the original butterfly. This version of the Butterfly, Butterfly XT, is the third version of the Butterfly that Duncan has made. They had a 2016 version that was similar to this new 2019 Butterfly XT. The 2016 and 2019 versions look the same in terms of case design, but have a different image on the lid. I enjoyed playing with…

Pretty easy and fun

I met a kid on the street with one of them and had fun so I thought given the price why don't you try it. The yo-yo itself is nothing special. But I knew what was going on. I was looking for some fun plastic that would react. The narrow bearing works well for what it is (actually I put it on a Jo-Jo progeny that had a pretty terrible bearing and it brought that litter back to life). The yo-yo lays fairly smoothly on the line and works well for simple tricks (rolls, puzzles, picture tricks…

Pros

Cons
  • Pretty much everything is fine
