Does what you want with no problems, the tip is sharp and removable/replaceable. Very well constructed, should last forever, this does NOT include rope so make sure you buy one or you'll hit the store! For the money this is a great piece, if you need it get it. This plumb bob comes with only one tip. With every other plumb bob I've bought in the past, I always carry a second spare point. The second tip was not kept in the lid or in the shipping carton. I like heavier bobs because the top can be removed and the second tip acts like a much smaller bob for tight styling where a regular full size bob wouldn't fit. If I buy this bean I need to buy a replacement tip so I can use the tool as usual.

I guess you don't often think that a plumb bob looks pretty but this one does. A mirror finish may not help hanging down to show the exact spot that is underneath what you are hanging it on.
