My son has been playing with his Mario all day since we got him. The app you have to download is very intuitive and it didn't take me more than 20 minutes to put all the pieces together, my son is only 5 so I had to help. I love that you can expand this starter kit and have an epic collection.

I bought this set a day early from Walmart and it does NOT come with any paper instructions like previous Lego sets. The packaging states that a smart device is required. The app is called Lego Super Mario and is easy to set up so you can build sets. So I think it's a great buy.

Overall a great set, an interesting combination of LEGO and Super Mario. The starter kit was easy to assemble by following the instructions in the app. It was a bit shaky due to the way they set up the installation sequence, but it worked out fine in the end.
