The name says it all. Head 502 from Manfrotto is quite massive. I took the adapter right out of the box. then mounted on a tripod. relax.

I ordered it and immediately thought I had made a mistake. Not so. This is an amazingly useful adapter. It's hard, but it works. The tripod adapters are perfect; had to be replaced with another sachtler designed for my head and it was painless.

I got this to use with my sliding bottom video head. The extra height made it impossible to use for this purpose (the head doesn't sit all the way down and the extra height just makes everything more wobbly). Have a Manfrotto flat bottom video head. Now happy. It can be useful to use a tripod with a flat head.

This adapter does NOT align your head like you would on a tripod and I am debating whether to return it or not. Otherwise it's definitely a quality piece (although it came with no instructions and I did find that you have to apply force to the cocking mechanism while pushing down on the head to actually screw it in deep enough to seat in the bowl).

It does exactly what it says in the description. It is essentially the interface between a 3/8-16 female thread on the bottom and a 100mm or 75mm ball (through an adapter ring) on the top. Well made and inexpensive. I bought it to attach the 501HDV head to the tongue on the boom. Bought for jib crane head. I have several 75mm ball heads and was hoping to attach one to the end of the boom and use the alignment options. Well it seems to be working. Unfortunately, the design does not allow the head to move anywhere near within the allowable range of motion when mounted on a ball socket tripod.
