At first it didn't seem like the mat was very soft and wouldn't retain water, but I was wrong on both counts. It's not soft, but it's like a cushion in your shoes. there is little to give but feels solid. Most importantly, it didn't feel too wet and dried fairly quickly. Perfect for getting out of the shower.

It's larger than I expected (quite well - fits the specs) and actually (barely) fits my very low bathroom door - a requirement considering the layout here and the only thing I could find that works. So yes! It's not pretty, but nothing offensive, just a large dark gray mouse pad. Note: I see no reason to get this unless you are struggling with a low hanging door. EDIT My original rating took off a star for lack of grip on the ground. I turned it upside down. Pretty stubborn now. This is a LIGHT

It's great when other people in the house get out of the shower before drying off. Tired of wiping with a towel. If you only walk out with wet feet, it will sink in so quickly you won't believe it. My first diatom "mat" was a hard rock, but it had curved edges and eventually cracked and had to be sanded frequently to clean it, and for a long time I put up with it not looking good. Yes, it looks like a mouse pad. It's about as thick as one. BUT the way it soaks up water and puff is so awesome. It's very slip resistant, even on my smooth tiles. I slip easily when my feet are wet trying to walk on a tile floor but how this mat works is no longer a problem. The drying time of my feet is so dry that I can walk on tiles without worry.
