fuzzy markings

I just went through this a few days ago and it's great, the only complaint I have is with the block markings, some of the blocks were mechanically engraved and difficult to read while others were marked a were lasers that deliver good, crisp text. while others look like they have been laser marked but weren't close enough to give a good sharp pattern or have already been smeared and the smearing is preventing the laser energy from making a clear mark. Remarkable Perfection at a Ridiculously Low Price

I read about Joe Blocks in Simon Winchester's recent book The Perfectionists. He writes about it in the prologue. I just had to have her. I think I bought them mainly because 15-20 years ago a set wasn't as good as this one, would have cost a few thousand dollars, maybe more. Today they cost less than $100, all because of things in Winchester's book. The case for my set was damaged in transit but Shars/Discount Machine Shop sent me a new case as soon as I contacted them about it. I'm sure I'll be shopping with Shars again - and probably sooner rather than later! All I can say about the accuracy/accuracy of gage blocks is that I would need an air-conditioned lab clean room full of very expensive equipment to test them. LOL, even the smallest of those "economy class" gauge blocks are only a few millionths of the advertised thickness…
