Perfect replacement

All of a sudden the fuel filler flap wouldn't open anymore. Although I could have gone to the dealer for a replacement I believe it was a lot easier. Ease of installation. Perfect job on the '98 Avalon.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Not sure

Not for Scion xB

This turned out to be compatible with my Scion xB but is not. Should be 3-5mm longer but fits my Camry. I ended up using tin snips to cut a small notch in the gas cap because I didn't have time to replace it.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Almost never

Replace the spring now, don't wait like me!

I spent months thinking about how to open the fuel filler flap and when I finally ordered and installed this part I felt like agonizing for such a long wait! The remnants of the old broken spring were easy to spot and the new one snapped into place with ease. Easy repair and works like a charm!

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick

easily retrofits to fuel tanks and accessories

I needed a gas cap spring for my 2008 Rav4 but couldn't find the exact one. I ordered this one because it looked exactly like the one I lost but Revane said it wouldn't fit so I took a chance. Well, Revane was right, he didn't fit without modifications. I cut off a piece of plastic, then bent the metal spring a bit, and WAH-LAH, it fits and works great.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Minor issues

Genuine is the way to go

If you need it like I do you have an old but well run car. Please get the "Original" part. They can be a bit more expensive compared to the aftermarket. But they are worth the money. I had an aftermarket product for a year that not only was too soft to hold the door open, it broke after a year. This is the real deal, works well, holds the door open and looks solid.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Alright

It's worth paying the extra cost to get the genuine part.

I first bought the Dorman version of this part and it really isn't as good as the Toyota part. It's definitely worth the small extra charge. An installation tip: Installation is easier when the fuel filler flap is half open. I don't know why, but when the hatch was fully open the clip would not engage, but when it was partially closed it climbed up immediately.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Some cons

No original part received from Toyota.

Not received a genuine Toyota part. I received a Dorman part in a plastic bag with a white sticker laser printed with just the Toyota part number. Toyota parts come with Toyota logo labels. I have replaced several of these springs in the past and know what the original part looks like and what the packaging looks like. It doesn't fit as tight as a real one and the metal spring is a different color than it should be. but it works differently.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something different
