The included "template" that came with these caused me more issues than they are worth. The template for me in all cases was slightly bent due to the shelves it was shipped near, so they were never perfectly flat. Second, I found the spacing to be a bit off the 16" on center studs, which was a little baffling. My advice, if you've hung shelves before is to just do it manually, one bracket at a time, using a stud finder and your own level.
