To everyone who says they are made in China.

Made in the USA! I was so happy to see the US letters on these pens after all the bad reviews I read. The General must have packed his things, because it is a reliable tool. Sharp point, lightweight yet durable construction. You can't ask for more for less than $6!

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Transparency

Good scratch tips, poor magnet retention.

Marker tip works great, magnet is very strong but can be too strong. The magnet broke off the top of both devices I bought when I took them off my workbench. Luckily they are magnets so they just stick to the surface and I was able to pull them out and just stick them back on.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Doubtful

very good writer. - Measuring and marking tools

I love art etching. with a detachable tip. The magnet is pretty strong and definitely works. almost a nuisance so sticking to it very easily with other handle fasteners. I like it very much so far. I use it on plastic wraps and items I'm worried about being stolen.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not sure

Works perfectly. good for marking tools

It definitely does the job of marking. I wish there was some way to protect the tip other than the very tight rubber hose that comes with it. Whenever I tighten the rubber guard, it's so tight that the whole tip comes out of the barrel, even though I used pliers to tighten it as far as I could. So I just need to keep it somewhere where it can't scratch anything important.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Volume

Magnet is an important issue

In theory a magnet seems to be a good addition; but when I drew thin lines and then put the pen down to rub the surface of the object I was drawing. and then take the scribe again. They bring all metal near me. It's really annoying when you do a good job and then have to record what you're doing and remove the "pinned" item. What were they thinking?

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Expensive

Works well for drawing pins

And buying one with a magnet on the end was a brilliant move on my part. I thought it would be useful for storing small nuts or washers. It is, but what's even better is that I can "hang" it on metal at my workbench. Lights, shelves, brackets, you name it, I "stick" it to a handy metal surface and it's right at my fingertips. THAT was smart of me. The tip is adjustable in and out, so that's a bonus. Looks good, well made and quite functional. If you need a scribe, this will do.

Pros
  • Alright!

Quality is dropping on this one

Purchased to replace an identical 2014 SKU and part number. This 2017-18 version appears to be a softer/weaker/lighter aluminum barrel stock. The magnet fell off after a few weeks so I need to fix it. A carbide tip seems suitable so far, but is only used about 90% on wood. I will no longer buy this product here or from General. I would pay more for a better product that doesn't seem to be subject to the almighty god of profitability. Now we know.

Pros
  • Price
Cons
  • Minor issues

*** VISUAL FALSE ADVERTISING ***

I have several of these pens and have been using them for almost 30 years. I sent my photo on the right and the new one on the left. Firstly it's Chinese garbage now, I understand it was mentioned in the description. But the first picture they show, their "Showcase picture", is not what you will get. If you enlarge the first picture you can even read "USA" on the bag holder. They obviously don't get older and better made American brand. The magnet is small, the design is chunky, and theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
