Game Changer: TV & Video

I'm an old school guy who's been collecting records and CDs for decades. I still really like the sound and sound quality of these media. And I love the idea of "owning" your music. My son introduced me to the Audiolab 6000 and I am very happy about it. Being able to play any song that comes to mind with the touch of a finger is amazing. And the sound quality from venues like Spotify is impressive. I have many friends who don't necessarily share my taste in music. The idea that I can give them…

Pros
  • Well Done
Cons
  • Reliability

I bought this with high hopes after much research. I got the device, plugged it in and (Bob wasn't my uncle) it wouldn't connect to the router. The light stayed red and didn't turn solid white. That's all I got after four days of calls and emails to various tech support sources. Everyone shied away from the responsibility and I got no help. I finally got in touch with a guy in Canada named Allen who knows his stuff. I tried what he said and it didn't work. He suggested that my problem is that…

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Good but not great

A budget streamer that works and sounds like it costs a lot more.

The Audiolab 6000n is one of the best value music streamers. The price is similar to Blusound Node 2i. The sound quality is clear and dynamic. The control app on Audiolab is excellent. The Dts Play-Fi app has been very stable for me and works well with my Samsung S7 Android phone. Finally a quality streamer with a control app that doesn't require an Apple product to get the most out of it. They have support for almost every paid streaming service, not to mention tons of free internet music…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Good streamer in this price range

I mainly use this streamer in an analog system that is really optimized for phono stages. Driving a 3-watt amp through a 96-efficiency speaker. Audiolab in my system is colorless and neutral. To connect for the first time, I had to physically place it right next to the router. Once connected it works perfectly.

Pros
  • Stable construction
Cons
  • Functionality

Internal DAC is disappointing - there are better options

I am returning this product for a number of reasons. The main reason is that the built-in DAC sounds significantly worse than the built-in DAC of my Emotiva XMC-2. I've done a few different blind A/B tests with friends and family and the difference was night and day - the 6000N sounds pretty bad on analogue playback. If you have a low quality AVR, the 6000N might be the best option for you. It's no secret, but the fact that it won't play MQA files through Tidal is a bigger disappointment than I

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Frequency
