Cheap junk - coils

Replaced my original 20 year old coils with these. The first failed in less than a month. The second one failed today, only ten hours of operation. Absolute rubbish, avoid this seller and their products.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • Poor instructions

Check your coils on arrival

Three coils purchased for V6, one pack has the correct resistance on both sides, one is just 2 ohms above minimum on one side, the third was on one side 6 ohms below the minimum sidewalls and will cause a misfire. You should check them out right away and make sure they meet OEM specs, don't make the mistake I made and you'll end up eating the faulty product by waiting too long. Obviously they are not factory tested prior to shipment as others have claimed.

Pros
  • Heavy Duty
Cons
  • Only available in White

2. defective. fits coils

After replacing the stator and timing assembly ($700 and 3 hours) on my 2000 50hp Johnson. it still worked the same. Through troubleshooting I found that the NEW coil pack was bad (ignition only on 1 cylinder). I returned it and replaced it with the same product. The 2nd coil pack does not idle, but operates on both after the throttle is pressed. I do not recommend this product. CDI needs to strengthen quality control. I will not order from them again.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Guard

Short life best parts

Installed on my 1995 50hp Johnson. on a 24 foot pontoon. It never hurts to have a backup when it comes to coil packs so I bought it new, received it on July 1st and installed it the same day. The original left in reserve. After 2 months and 4 days the engine disappeared for no apparent reason and would not start. I replaced it with the original spool and the boom works great again. Now I don't expect things to last forever, but 2 months? Pretty cheap electronics. I will buy the original OMS.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Minor things

terrible aftermarket product do not recommend

Bought two of these less than two weeks apart thought maybe the first one was just bad so I returned it and then got the second even worse one which I didn't even bother with gave a spark on the bottom coil apparently these products were not tested before and yes everything was wired correctly. I will never buy CDI products again and recommend them to buy genuine Johnson stuff or call those aftermarket products crap. Negative stars if I could, one star only because it was very easy to return…

  • Price
