Defective!: Blank media

These discs are defective! I tried about ten discs at random and none of them worked. I accidentally record videos and this purchase was past the return date when I tried to use them. I've tried several Verbatim I have and they worked. So, there is no problem with my DVD burner. I've never had any problems with Memorex, but these discs are defective and cannot be returned. Needless to say, I'm pretty annoyed.

3 bad discs per pack

Some of these discs didn't work when I tried to use them to back up data files after running out of regular single layer DVDs . So these Memorex 8.5GB drives are great for ripping DVDs, but they don't work 100% reliably as backup drives on a PC running the Windows 7 operating system. When I inserted some of these blank drives into the computer's DVD player, I got a message The screen says the drive needs to be formatted before I can use it, but other drives worked fine. Total: 3 "faulty disk"…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • I have no real complaints about it, everything is fine

Almost no crashes, highly recommended

We create over 15 DVDs a month which end up being sent to a replicator to make 1000+ copies. Before we submit our master, we need to check the content for any issues. We will burn a test copy onto this dual layer disc and watch it on our DVD players. Some older DVD players have trouble reading a burned dual-layer disc and freeze during a shift break, but we've only had a handful of failures out of the thousands of discs we've burned over the past few years. I switched to buying 50 packs because

Half filled pouch Burn Fails

The first 5 or 6 slices lit up perfectly. After that I got one crash after another. At first I suspected that my computer was running a media burner until the same thing happened on another computer. I tried the disc from the bottom of the stack and it burned correctly on the same computer with the same material. I used another program to check for disk bumps and the bad disks didn't work at the 3.8GB point where I believe the shift change occurs. The DVD identifier is used and this indicates…

Great price, no problem!

I see a lot of bad reviews about these discs (most of the bad ones are on the first page) but it seems most of these bad reviews are from 2011 and earlier. Maybe Memorex used to make discs differently, but I've had no problems with it. I like to burn a DVD for my wife of all our home videos as well as pictures from our phones and used to only use 4GB discs. , while they worked great, there just wasn't enough space to store more than a few events on disk, so I started looking for an alternative.

Burning Memorex DVD+R DL discs has become unstable

I've been using Memorex DVD+R DL discs for about a year and haven't had any major problems until recently when the discs did most of the time fail before a successful burn completes. I've tried speeds from 2.4X to 6X with pretty much the same result. I've read other reviews here that suggest the manufacturing process for these drives has changed recently, making them more prone to different results on different drives. I have two Toshiba satellites with DVD drives that are only a year or two…

Worth it for the price and convenience

In my experience you always pay more when you buy blank dual layer DVDs at brick and mortar stores and you almost never have a choice of what you really want to buy pain . Luckily the price is reasonable and the quality is about what it should be in my experience. First, why put them on top of one layer? Most people don't really need dual layer DVDs unless you have large files or longer videos that you want to put on one DVD instead of splitting it up. In my case I had a home video that was…
