Blu-ray is region independent, DVD not so good

Please note this was sold by Revain Services, Inc. so there is no seller to contact, but the DVD is not region free. I've tried several discs including region 2 and even 0 and it's region 1 locked. As I mostly watch Blu-Ray and have a separate old Philips DVD player which is region free, I didn't realize that this region was for a Banned for a while, but lesson learned - try everything within the 30-day return period. Even if they say it's possible to update the firmware in the comments to the…

Great player and great customer service

First, DO NOT do any firmware updates unless specifically directed to do so by the company that made this multi-region player. The player worked as advertised. Plays both Region B and Region 2 discs. Make sure you find the little cheat sheet included in the box to change the region. I updated the firmware which caused the player to completely lose the SD multi-region feature. Blu-ray Region B is still playing. I contacted the company listed below on their cheat sheet and they responded very…

Not so great anymore!

My original post about this multi-region BD/DVD player ended with "CURRENT PERFORMANCE BASED"! Well, a year has passed and this player no longer plays DVDs other than NTSC! I have some DVDs in PAL format and am now greeted with the message "Unable to work with disc" then the screen returns to the player menu screen and a question mark (?) appears over the DVD icon. I don't know what happened, but right now I have a very expensive standard DVD/BD player. I can buy a non-multi-region S5100 player

It works very simply with DVDs of different regions

For some reason before buying it I didn't notice that the device was reissued by Bombay Electronics and is not sold as a multi-region player Sony. I don't know what it does with the warranty but it works as advertised. Changing DVDs is very easy. It simply plays any disc from any region. Switching from Blu-ray is a bit more complicated and there is a single-sided printed sheet that tells you how to do it. As others have pointed out, it's important to stick to the instructions, especially if you

What a stupid mistake on my part

I just want to thank the seller Global Electronics for getting the All Regions feature of this player. I had a problem with the player after a Sony firmware update that took place online. I assumed nothing could go wrong. After about a month, I noticed that none of the 10 or so Region B Blu-rays I had were working. I contacted the seller and explained the problem. Within MINUTES they emailed me back and gave me a few solutions to try including the zipped file to try another update. It did not…

But mostly works. suitable for Blu-ray players and recorders

The player says it switches regions automatically. Not correct; only manual switching. The operating instructions say nothing about national operations; an additional duplication sheet contains instructions on how to do this. The player automatically checks for firmware updates, but the additional mimeography sheet at the very end of the full-page troubleshooting guide tells (oops, again) to ignore them (oops). Which I didn't read until I downloaded the latest firmware update and the thing just

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability

So far everything looks great!

I've recently received some great Blu-ray releases from Arrow Video in the UK and quickly found that I needed either a region-free player or a region-free player for some films I would enjoy -2 import players need to get in the future and I already have. The player I bought was "like new" from Bombay Electronics (reportedly has scratches on the player but looks good overall) and arrived fairly quickly. how fast an IL packet can be in CA with normal delivery. The player looks and works well so…
