very clear signal - Electrical

I have found that many non-contact voltage testers are not reliable and have some fuzzy noises and lights. This device glows green when powered on, loud and flashes red when power is present. Very clear readings. Mine is more sensitive than its rating and picks up low voltage coming through the bezels from the phone charger or outlets. I like it much better than my small nc tester.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Has flaws

Not very sensitive to voltage testers

This device works, but it needs practical contact with the line under test to register. I literally have to plug the tip into an outlet for the alarm to go off most of the time. This type defeats the purpose of a "non-contact" voltage detector. Despite this, it is still safer and easier to use than a voltmeter to detect current in an outlet.

  • Great for me

Misleading Specifications of the 40116N Voltage Detector.

Error when ordering this tester. I was looking for a low voltage tester and after reading the specs of this 40116N tester I thought it was a low voltage tester. Looking at the 40116N tester when I received it, I noticed that this was not the case. I went back and re-read the specs and realized it was for the 40150N dual-purpose tester. The functions are very deceptive.

  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Clarity

A must for anyone working with electrical wiring

I am impressed with the sensitivity of this device, it even works on the right side of the power cord!1. As other reviewers point out: The list is hopelessly misleading. You are buying 40116N, not 40150N!2. Opening the battery compartment will test your patience and could cost you a nail. But once you do, the device itself is quite handy. I would buy it again.

Pros
  • Slim design

good product within reason.

I had three of these Southwire testers. one didn't work (not bought from amazon). The rule of thumb for these testers is to always test them on a circuit you know is live before testing them on a circuit where you want the actual result. do that. 110 hurts. So far I've had a few false positives from this tester, but they were false positives. a false positive result indicates caution. I haven't had a single false negative result. False negatives are when you jump back, yell, and try to shake…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
