Revainrating 5 out of 5

Love it! Should have bought it a long time ago

ORIGINAL REVIEW (11/2018): I've been eyeing this monitor for a few months and jumped at the chance to get it for less than $500. To my knowledge this is the same panel used in the much more expensive 42 inch Dell monitors. Regardless, the image is clear and sharp - and BIG! Definitely a solid 5 star rating in my book. I work from home, my work laptop is capable of 4K playback, and I envy the lucky few in the office who have [Dell] 42-inch monitors. I was hesitant because I have an old Mac that doesn't support 4k, but found out later that this is actually a bonus. Most of my PC is dedicated to surfing, reading, organizing and budgeting. After 6-8 hours on a computer screen, it's nice to have larger text on my personal computer (it runs at 2560 x 1440 pixels instead of the standard 4k resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels). It may have more to do with my age than anything else, but I'm in no rush to upgrade my home laptop. In terms of quality, I don't see any of the screen issues that other reviewers have reported. but maybe I'm just not that specific or insightful. The sound it outputs is a lot better than I expected - perfect for casual listening and with pretty decent bass for what it is. Having a remote control is a huge bonus. It's nice to have this control at hand, although the joystick at the bottom of the display is actually quite easy to use. Our final plan is for this monitor to serve as both a computer monitor and a streaming content monitor. A remote control and better sound than most televisions would be ideal. The only downside, apart from being a bit pricey, is the size. It is big. I installed it on a pivot arm on my desk and had to tighten all pivot points to deal with this monster. I also had to buy a VESA adapter from 100mm to 200mm as my arm was 100mm and my monitor was 200mm. (see image). This happens with each of my two computers plugged in and even with no computer plugged in, so it's definitely a monitor. This is not fixed by reloading the image or reloading the monitor. Over the years (okay, decades) I've had more monitors than I can count - this is the first one I've had to fail (and happens to be the second LG product to let me down, which is my opinion really ruined the quality of LG products. I've been using monitors for a lot longer and never had any problems. My only option is to accept the inferior display, explore repair options (not expecting much from LG here), and look again for a monitor with acceptable build quality and lifespan. Getting less than 2 years from such an expensive monitor is completely ridiculous. UPDATE 7/31/2020: LG has once again earned my respect by supporting their product. Today they sent a master to the house for a free screen replacement. It took less than half an hour and my monitor is now like new with no dead pixels or vertical stripes. We can only hope this one lasts longer than the first. I will update again if there are more problems. In the meantime Bravo, LG!
