Works well with my Macbook Pro as an external display, both for extending my desktop and for mirroring.

I bought this mainly because I edit videos on my Macbook Pro. I needed a bigger screen so I could see more clearly how my video would look on a TV screen and also give me more real estate for the different windows I use when color grading my video. I'm also a teacher and sometimes I just use it to show my screen, show some students what I'm doing or to share something with colleagues. There are three ways to connect this: there is a VGA input, a DVI-D input and an HDMI input. I have an HDMI output on my Macbook Pro and when I use a standard HDMI cable to connect it it mirrors exactly what's on my screen. When I connect to the VGA or DVI-D input, my desktop expands. I did it first with an HDMI to DVI-D cable, but it's not perfect. I'm assuming it's a Mac issue, but it doesn't set the correct resolution for desktop icons and windows when you connect it this way. I ended up buying a "mini display port" to DVI-D cable, plugging the mini display port end into one of the Thunderbolt outputs on my Mac, and connecting a standard DVI-D cable to it Dell. It worked great. I'm not worried about the VGA input. So now I keep an HDMI cable and a DVI-D cable connected to the mini display port and when I want to mirror I connect the HDMI. This is actually very handy when I just need a bigger screen; Extending the screen means that in order to access some things I have to move the mouse across the entire screen and "deep" in another. When I want to extend the screen, which I do when editing videos, I plug in a different cable. I set up a workspace in Premiere Pro that places the view monitor on my external display and the timeline and controls on my laptop. That works great. It was easy to set up. The monitor snaps onto the stand and is very secure. Connecting the cables from the bottom is a little fiddly, but it didn't take long. The menu is easy to navigate with three touch buttons on the right side of the screen. Anyway, I know there are better screens out there with a better resolution than the 1920 x 1080 you can get on this one. However, for my purposes they are too expensive and not needed. I wanted to see how my HD videos would look on a standard HD screen, not the retina screen on my desktop. It was in my price range and did exactly what I needed.
