Review on Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25 Inch LED Lit Monitor: Crystal Clear Display and Superior Performance by Rashid Sickly

Revainrating 5 out of 5

27 inches or 25? Glossy or matte?

The box the monitor comes in is packed with lots of intertwined pieces of cardboard. It's super hard cardboard, harder than the box Revain shipped the monitor in. I feel sorry for anyone who decides to repackage this monitor to send back as it will be testing your patients. Even when you take it out of the box, you can sweat. The monitor looks good and is based on a combination of high-quality plastic and metal. The metal acts as a frame while the super-hard plastic gives the impression of a solid piece of aluminium, but it clearly isn't, it's still very attractive and durable. As I'm a big fan of glossy displays, their crystal clear image improves my focus and immerses me in the computing environment. I've always hated matte displays because they were so boring. When I heard about the semi-glossy display type of this monitor, I was afraid to take a risk with this monitor. I'm so glad I did because this combined mix really is the perfect image projection for your eyes. It's anti-glare, which is the only downside to glossy displays, and it definitely doesn't look like your regular matte display - I'm so relaxed. The picture is just striking - I think that's a real standard. If you're wondering whether to go for 25" or 27", consider these points. A) The larger the screen, the more eye and mouse movement is required. Of course you can calibrate your mouse, but combining eye movement, mouse tracking and cursor speed can be tricky. B) A 25" image is even sharper than a 27" image because the pixel resolution is higher than that of a 27" image. Consider this along with Cause A and you'll see that for most goals and purposes, going from 25 to 27 is just great. Be sure to calibrate your monitor. I use 30-35% power consumption (there is a counter in the menu). I was able to achieve this by setting the monitor and computer operating systems to use advanced settings. For example, I set the brightness to a lower temperature (7500K) on both my computer and monitor. This makes the white space less yellowish and more neutral white (flashing white as I call it). In the computer operating system, I set the RGB gamma to a width of 2.6 (the operating system default is usually 2.2), which results in more saturated colors. These two settings allowed me to lower the brightness and increase the contrast, resulting in a beautiful screen ideal for multimedia: high contrast, richer colors and more pleasant whites. Calibration can be a pain, but it's worth it in the end. I am very happy with the quality of this monitor. I can't believe how good my computing environment looks right now.
