While frustrated by my Mac Mini's speed, I found a YouTube video about upgrading memory. I looked at the specs on my mini (mid 2010), ordered the maximum memory capacity (8GB), waited a week for delivery and returned within 5 minutes of unplugging the device (remove back panel, remove/insert two memory modules, reinstall ) I had 8g RAM instead of 2g.
