Incredibly sharp images at a great price

Very sharp images and virtually no color fringing. There is some distortion at the very edges, but as expected with the 14mm ultra wide this can be corrected in post-production. Works on my full frame Pentax K-1. Works with aperture priority when the aperture ring is set to "A". Manual focus only, but for landscapes the depth of field is amazing when the focus is set at or near infinity. Since it is almost a fisheye, no filters are possible due to the curved lens. It comes with a heavy-duty…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • No mold required

This is one of the best K-mount lenses I've used on a full-frame Pentax K1 camera. The images are clear and well-lit. The colors are bright and clear. The wide angle function is great. Using this lens in full manual mode took some getting used to, but once I got it right I really began to understand the power of the Pentax K1 camera. This lens is not designed for digital cameras. Originally designed for 35mm cameras, this lens can be easily adapted for use with full-frame digital cameras. There

Like a handle. for lenses

I was hesitant before purchasing this lens. I've read incredible stories about lens sharpness. I've also read a lot of not-so-amazing stories about quality control issues with Samyang (the lens manufacturer). I have been a circumcised Pentax shooter in the past and recently switched to the K1 which has little UWA glass other than a very expensive and very heavy 15-30. Considering there were no other options and that if this lens works, it REALLY works, I took a chance. Revain's return policy is

Amazing value for money

VERY satisfied. Wanted a really wide angle (but not too wide) for my Pentax K-5S II. APS-S. So 14mm equals 21mm, perfect for landscape and architectural photography. There is a big difference between the wide angle coverage of 21mm and 27mm on my regular Pentax 18-135mm zoom lens. And at f/2.8 wide open there's amazing depth of field, not too bad at all. Like most other lenses, it's very sharp in the mid-range. f/4 to f/8. but in practice, on a stand or tripod, it's very, very sharp at all…

Sometimes it can be great.

This lens is made by Samyang and rebranded by Rokinon and others. This is a good deal if you've gotten a good copy. It has become popular with landscape and night sky photographers due to its f2.8 aperture and the wide field of view that 14mm offers on a full frame camera. Most users will likely use it on a camera with a cropped APSc sensor, where severe distortion and soft corners are not as common. On a full frame camera, unless you're lucky enough to get a copy that's the optical equivalent…

Sharp, sharp, very sharp

Based on the many positive reviews, I have high hopes for this lens. OTOH, I don't have high expectations because it's a lot cheaper than comparable Canon, Nikon or Pentax counterparts. Let me get to the point. It's very sharp and has incredible resolution. It can be used wide open at f/2.8. Color and contrast are excellent. Distortion aside, it's optically perfect. Distortions can easily be corrected with software such as PTLens. Manual focusing is difficult with any UWA through the…
