Luckily my postman stopped by and saw that I had bought an inferior brand. She said "Oh no darling" (she calls me darling) "You don't need a door with an open hinge. I'm writing this review about 3 years after purchasing this mailbox. Whilst the construction appears to be as solid and reliable as described and the working function is great, I am sorry to report that the bottom hinge on the lockable door is rusting. I am very disappointed that after paying close to $200 for a mailbox, the benefit you can get from it is not worth it. We live 1/2 mile up the hill and through the woods from our post box. Neighborhood kids started stealing our mail and we looked for a solution. It was Mail Boss 7107. I ordered and received a Mail Boss 7106 mailbox and a Mail Boss 7121 built-in steel shelf through Revain. Both arrived undamaged within the normal time. The only quality issue I noticed right away was that on the Mail Boss 7106 mailbox, the steel plate that makes up the locking door has a bottom edge that was kitchen knife sharp about halfway up the edge.
