broke after 6 uses on the tape measure

Has only been used about 6 times and the tape was fully extracted when stretched to 12ft. Save money and buy another brand. Too bad, Stanley has always been one of the best in the past.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Some minor issues

Consistency for linear measurements

It's nice to know that this tape hasn't changed since I bought it in high school over forty years ago. I hope I don't lose these. But if I do, I also hope that the one I buy when I'm 100 is of the same quality.

Pros
  • Easy-to-read control panel
Cons

Poor quality in the latest design.

I've had a lot of these but the quality has dropped dramatically! I bought two and within the first week the end bent on the hook and the rear rivet pulled out on both so now they don't fully retract. My other two are three years old and in great shape. Very unlucky!

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • old

Really comfortable role.

They don't break, they can only be lost in the store. Luckily they're showing up again, and who knows, one from the old ones or the one you just bought. Buy 5 for the first time as only 1 will be replaced (lost) a few times. In fact, it's a convenient, lightweight little strap for your pocket.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

12ft mini tape measure bends too easily, recommend longer/wider tape measure

12ft tape measure is really small. This means that the band is very thin and does not remain very stiff when stretched (without the entire band touching the ground). Therefore, it can be a bit difficult to use when you are standing and trying to measure the floor as the tape measure will bend and tip over. I would recommend longer measuring tapes that also have wider and stiffer bands!

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Empty

I love these ribbons.

I've carried a tape measure with me almost all the time for the last 55 years. I grew up in a sawmill family and there was always something to measure. I build handcrafted log homes and there is a lot of measurement every day throughout the day. I always keep a few on hand to give out to new hires and tell them to take them to work. These are quality bands, big enough to do a lot of things and small enough you won't notice you have them in your pocket. I would recommend them to anyone who needs

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Not as good as my old Stanleys.

Worked great until I pulled too hard and it fell apart. I've used Stanley's tools, including tape measures, since I was a toddler. Dad's tool was my first toy. I'm in my 40's and still have many of the tools he used including classic 1970's Stanley Powerlocks. They show use and abuse, but they all work just fine. I also have a plastic Stanley 12ft that works great and dates from the 90's. Now I'll admit that you shouldn't try to rock the rafters with a tape measure, but it should have some…

Ideal tape measure for woodworking and DIY work

This tape measure is ideal for woodworking and DIY work. You don't have to carry around a 25 or 30 foot tape like I did since most of your projects will be 8 feet or less. sometimes 10 or 12 feet. These longer bands have time to show, but they're big and chunky, and you definitely don't have to carry them around all day while you work. This one is so light I forgot I was carrying it and went mowing the lawn after the woodwork and didn't even realize it was still on me until I was done. he never

Pros
  • The special true zero hook allows you to use a nail as an axis for drawing circles and arcs
Cons
  • Unsafe

Good tape in a compact form

I use tape measures a lot in air bridges over other people's heads. Before buying I would save my 30ft Stanley tape, but I find it unnecessarily heavy (dropping Tooling is a big issue, and yes it's attached to me with a tool leash) and I've rarely needed a strap of this length.. Since most of the measurements I take are less than 10 feet, this is the perfect combination of Length and lightness The only downside is the band is thinner so the protruding length is shorter (about 2ft - 6" - 3ft…

Pros
  • Stanley Limited Lifetime Warranty; Sizes 1/2" x 12'
Cons
  • Expensive

Beautiful all-metal body

Beautiful all-metal body. This is literally the only model I could find with a metal body. However, apart from the metal case, there is no real improvement in quality. It has very substandard internals and a really substandard latch. I only used the tape measure a couple of times before I had to throw it away. Since it's only 12 feet, I made the mistake of pulling the band too far because the poorly attached band slipped off the spring. Once the spring has gone back, it's impossible (and not…

Pros
  • Mylar polymer-coated blade and heat-treated spring for durability and longevity
Cons
  • Requires socket
