Ethereum was the first viable smart contract platform. Everyone agrees that this is the dominant platform. The success of ethereum inspires competitors to a fierce struggle. Currently, the ethereum's most serious competitor is EOS, since its creators are trying to act asymmetrically, focusing on those aspects where the ethereum is weak.
