Historical view
The White Paper for the project was published by J. R. Willett in January 2012, while the project officially started on the last day of July 2013 with a monthly fundraiser in which everyone could purchase Mastercoin (MSC). The Mastercoin Foundation collected about 5,000 Bitcoins, which were worth around $ 500,000 at the time. In March 2015, it was renamed Omni, whose role in the bitcoin ecosystem is declared as a platform for decentralized protocols.
The main functions of the Mastercoin protocol
Integration with exchanges - Omni is integrated with the best exchanges of both Bitcoin and Alt-Coins.
User cryptocurrencies - the protocol allows each user to design and release their own currency directly on the Bitcoin blockchain,
Smart property - these are contracts that can present certain goods. Individual digital contracts can refer to services, products, virtual currencies, monetary instruments and many more.
Savings Wallet - a collection of addresses under which all transactions are registered using Mastercoin.
