Review on Ultimate Protection and Comfort: Mechanix Wear Regulator Welding Gloves by Michael Bazen

A welder's perspective

tl;dr: Nomex and Kevlar work, but the sleeves are too short for normal American men. Welding of UV rays by plasma arc. I now have quite a UV burn on my left bicep due to the gap between these sleeves and the short sleeve shirt. My fault, clearly. I don't blame anyone but myself. These sleeves catch all UV rays, sparks and slag with no problem. The problem is that they only go up to my elbow. I'm not a big guy - I'm below average and have what is called an "athletic build". Thing is, I'm shorter than most welders. So if these things don't work for me, forget the guy with the 200 pound pipe sticking out all day. Tube 80 attached to hot roll 1/4 and 3/8. Nothing fantastic; moderate arcing time. God help me if I choose TIG - this thing shines 10x worse than MIG and 50x worse than sunlight. Ouch. On the other hand, at 90 degrees, they are colder than my leather jacket; I'm just sorry I didn't buy the longer version on purpose. If you use them for welding, look for a pair long enough to cover your biceps. If you're using them to protect yourself from millennial bites who can't take a bad grade, I'm not sure I can help. Check with a teaching assistant at your local university - they will undoubtedly have more experience.
