Too loud for me - home audio

I like to listen to NPR (ie people talking) on my clock radio for an hour before waking up in the morning. I keep the radio volume down so as not to disturb others in my house (so I can take a nap sometimes). I couldn't turn the volume of this clock radio down as low as I wanted. The volume of this clock radio is adjusted in increments represented by the number displayed. Volume level 0 is muted and level 1 is about the same as the old radio I used. But if someone sets an alarm that I use to turn on the clock radio in the morning, level 5 is the lowest possible volume setting. I understand the design philosophy: don't make me (accidentally) set an alarm that's too quiet to wake me up. But the minimum alarm volume is too loud for me. I sent back the clock radio. (Thanks, Revain, for the relief.) Except for the "problem" with the volume, I liked the features of this clock radio. I chose it precisely because it has front speakers; I was hoping I could hear it better than my old rear facing radio. (Since my hearing deteriorates with age, I wanted to hear better without turning up the volume on the radio.) It has two alarms, battery backup, an easy-to-see display, good radio reception, and good sound quality. I wish this worked for me.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No performance
