Review on EnGenius ENS500-AC Outdoor 5 GHz Wireless With 11Ac Wave 2 Technology by Walter Day

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice AP that supports client bridge mode

It used to be that most high-end APs supported client bridge mode, but now it seems to be fairly rare, replaced with various WDS and mesh modes that don't do what I need - fortunately EnGenius outdoor APs do still have this feature, and they're priced nicely.I had no issues at all setting it up, plugged the PoE adapter into the AP on one side and my laptop on the other, opened the web interface, clicked around for a few minutes, waited for a couple reboots, and it was running as desired, bridging ethernet to my existing access point.Update: After 6 months I finally got around to running a network cable to the location where I was using this AP as a bridge, in that time it has been 100% rock solid reliable and fast, never had to think about it, it just worked. I look forward to repurposing it soon in AP mode to get better coverage in one corner of my house.Additionally, in the time since I bought this AP, I have gotten a few Mikrotik wireless devices, and while they do have some nice features, they cannot handle bridge mode like this EnGenius can, so I am extra impressed.

Pros
  • Networking Products
Cons
  • The device is designed to be used outside, but it is not particularly weather-resistant, so it may not be ideal for harsh environments.
