I have been using this hatchet for over a year and am very happy with it. I would say that of the mountaineering axes available, this is the best option. Despite the travel ax's limitations, it gets the job done. It has enough weight to cut anything under 6 inches in diameter with relative ease, anything larger will require more effort. The sheath has a belt loop, which is very convenient, the handle is comfortable and quite durable. In general, the only problem I have is with the weight, it's 18 ounces on my scale. It's the perfect weight for what it's designed for, but if it were just five ounces lighter (without sacrificing sharpening quality) I'd give it 5 stars. Well done Gerber.
