Description of Gerber Pack Hatchet Camping Axe - Coyote Brown Handle/Black Blade [Optimized for SEO: 31-003484]

Full tang construction means steadiness in hand and the strength to power through swinging chores. A tall blade grind retains optimal sharpness. The handle is wrapped in a rubber over mold for added grip and comfort. Nylon sheath can be mounted on pack or belt. Integrated lanyard hole secures the Hatchet while on the move.

Great compact axe!

Great little hatchet. Excellent quality, durable, sharp and feels good in the hand. I give it 5 stars and recommend it, but be warned because it has such a small handle that your knuckles will hit almost any surface you chop. I don't like it at all, but I think I'll buy it with a slightly longer handle.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Not bad

I regret buying this

On first use I found the handle is so short it can't be used, you can't really rotate it and there is no weight in your head to turn to lower him. It took me about 40 minutes to cut several small logs into smaller pieces and start a fire, while with an ax it would take 10 minutes. I thought I needed an ultra light hatchet for hiking, but I was planning on ordering a longer, heavier hatchet, a little frustrated with that.

Pros
  • Great fit for me
Cons
  • Lots of things

Light hatchet. You get what you paid for.

A very simple light hatchet. It's not clear what the hype is about. I can't split wood with it as it doesn't have enough weight or length to allow significant downward movement, but it handles kindling from logs fairly well. Possibly another use I can use to work with real woodwork, but for real camping use I'll stick with a full length hatchet. As mentioned earlier, this is a replacement for a long knife if you prefer to carry a smaller profile knife and opt for a ribbon hatchet for light…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Best for camping and hiking

Brought to the yard after receipt and use. We had a big ice storm and swollen hair all over. The soft edge was clean from the start. Not super sharp, but with a few stone chips it's ready to go. The handle on it fits perfectly and feels smooth in the hand when in use. Being a full tang blade means it won't snap at the tip like some do. I clipped it to my belt and honestly didn't really notice the weight. I will note that the sheath is a bit tight and difficult to untie at first, just needs some

Pros
  • Top marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Operating speed

Probably the best ax to grab your back.

I have been using this hatchet for over a year and am very happy with it. I would say that of the mountaineering axes available, this is the best option. Despite the travel ax's limitations, it gets the job done. It has enough weight to cut anything under 6 inches in diameter with relative ease, anything larger will require more effort. The sheath has a belt loop, which is very convenient, the handle is comfortable and quite durable. In general, the only problem I have is with the weight, it's…

Why, Gerber, why?!?! 😫😫😫

To be honest, this isn't the worst camping ax I've ever had; However, I hate lugging single-tasking devices in my bag and this definitely falls into that category. Personally, I like my camping ax to have a wide neck so I can use it with a wedge (if needed), like a hammer, etc. This product has a very thin neck that I wouldn't try to beat anything with. Is the sheath tight, velcro, nylon? Stuff that is NOT impressive. The ax is EXTREMELY sharp with an extremely sharp heel and tip. In my…
