Overview of the input's active IR sensor. Updated October 2019

This is an initial review of the driveway active IR sensor. I bought this sensor because the IR sensor was driving past cars and was giving too many false alarms. Since a focused beam is used here, this should solve both problems. This sensor uses three stacked sensors and requires 0.2 second blockage to trigger an alarm. Since the sensors are positioned at a 90 degree angle to the solar panels, the ideal arrangement is with the solar panels facing south and the driveway running north-south. They offer an optional solar panel (two required) that can be placed in any orientation. Installation requires some planning as the sensors require fairly precise alignment. Both units have a viewing hole to aid in the alignment process, but in my setup both holes were not visible due to the posts they were attached to (see photos). I used a snug fitting white rod threaded through the peep hole to allow for the initial setup. I then used the receiver's signal gauge to get the best setting, which was 184. The instructions are fine, but not very well written. Customer service was great as they responded to my email questions within a few hours or the next day. Overall I would recommend this product after two days of use but plan the installation carefully. I'd like to see something other than the sight holes to help with alignment, either a visible laser or a tube with a reflective surface that could be inserted into the sight hole. I will update this review if new issues arise. Update October 2019: I really want this device to work, but solar panels alone do not produce enough electricity on cloudy days and/or short winter days. The sensor worked fine for several days under blue skies, but two days of rain and the device stopped working, especially early in the morning. Sometimes it worked during the day. I added two additional solar panels for $30 each. The sensor worked fine for several days until we had two really dark overcast days, in the morning the sensors stopped working. Update: Came back a few days after a complete sensor failure.
