Important covers are the ones on the jaws of the clamp as they protect the bare metal of the clamp from what you are clamping. They can also be important to ensure a good ride over a trapped object. A little bit of the right glue will hold the covers in place, but the manufacturer needs to be smart enough to spot and fix this flaw.
