Review on Polder 358 Ultra Probe featuring a High-Heat 40-inch Silicone Cord by Tamara Pyle

Works great - until the wire breaks.

Bravo! I love my polder sensor and now this thing solves the problem. Buy this if this is your first time buying a polder - you will need it EDIT: It has been exactly a year since I wrote the original review and things have not gone well! I've had 2 of these and both have worked and nothing beats cooking with a probe. But then both showed the same problem - where the wire meets the cast handle, the wire will fail and in one case just fall off. Where a thin wire must come into contact with a stiff handle, normal flexing at that point will result in a bend. It doesn't take long for the insulation and then the small wires inside to separate. (And we take care of these things so well, having gone through several "original" polder probes.) Overall, the system is great, and for $10 you can have one in use and one in reserve. If the primary probe eventually fails (and it will), you can rotate and rearrange. All in all, I don't think this decision is unreasonable. Whether you're still sticking your forks into your food to see if it's done or you're constantly taking it out and putting it back in, cooking with a temperature sensor will change your life. But if you order a thermometer, please order this new sensor at the same time. You might as well order 2 while you're there. BestSD
