Description of Polder 358 Ultra Probe featuring a High-Heat 40-inch Silicone Cord

Sturdy construction of rust-proof stainless steel and high-heat, food-grade plastic; high-heat silicone probe cord measures 40 inches long. Designed for improved performance and long-life. Extra thin probe tip leaves a smaller puncture hole when sampling. Over-molded handle helps avoid moisture damage; comfort grip handle for ease-of-use. Universal design works with most of Polder's Digital In-Oven Thermometers.

Shorter than original length

Replacing the defective original probe - works great but is approximately 30cm shorter than original. I thought there would be no difference, but this one won't be far from the oven. But I like the reinforced flex where the pin becomes a flexible rod where the old one failed. However, remember that even though it's silicone, it still gets hot, so use an oven mitt!

A much better replacement, but still.

Probe supplied with Polder thermometer/timer failed after about half a dozen uses. After that, you only saw the cryptic "HI" or "LO" on the display, which made the device unusable. My guess is that water got into the probe at the cable entry point causing it to rupture. Bad design. Evidence of this is the updated replacement. Now there is a silicone grip that seals the connection of the cable to the probe. It's pretty cheap, but I think Polder should have supplied a replacement for free. This…

Prevents useless plastic "grip ".

I have no idea why they redesigned their probe to include this useless piece of plastic. All of that "grip" prevents me from easily threading the thermometer through pot lids, grilles, and other small holes I used to insert old probes. Silicone has a high heat resistance but is not so sure about this plastic. Some of the reviews here report that they melt at normal oven temperatures. Besides, who wants to "grab" a piece of plastic that's heated to 300 degrees Fahrenheit? Hey Polder, KISS: keep…

Ergonomic, works well but expensive

I bought this to replace the original temperature probe that came with my Polder thermometer which was burned between the oven door and the oven. This new one was a bit pricey at $11 considering the entire original polder was only around $17. But I don't like throwing things in the landfill so I just bought this expensive probe. It turned out to be twice the size of the original probe, but the pin that connects to the block was the same size and works fine. In fact, the larger probe is a bit…

Stopped working when I used it for the fourth time.

Firstly I am NOT saying this product is counterfeit; it looks just like the old probe that served me for many years. However, I will say that both my old and upgraded/new electronic polder thermometer turn on and show 'HI' for temperature only when the unit is on. And both of my thermometers work correctly with the new thermometer's sensor in place (I bought a second thermometer after that sensor failed 5 months after purchase). I don't have time to go back to get a replacement from this…

Fantastic replacement option

Our original was past its life so we ordered this one. In fact, I like it a lot better than the original. At the top, the girth is greatly reduced, but the point continues for a fraction of an inch. To the casual viewer, this would likely go unnoticed. However, if you roast and cook a lot of meat like I do, you'll quickly find that this design allows the probe to gently penetrate the meat without any effort. The probe almost retracts into the flesh, making it much easier to pierce and remove…

Does not work with ALL Polder oven thermometers

Attention refusers: The description says that this probe "Suitable for all Polder oven thermometers" and "Universal design works with all Polder digital inputs - oven thermometers. Polder's own website has almost identical wording on this product. This is also the same sensor that comes with the THM-308-90 thermometer. Here's the catch, according to Polder's technical support, although the THM 308-90 was modeled after the 307, these sensors WILL NOT WORK WITH the 307 thermometer! The 307 does…

Polder finally got it right - Great, improved temperature sensor design

I've tested several Polder sensors over the past two years. They always failed due to the very poor construction of the connection of the wire to the metal probe. It was a weak point that always shorted out after a few uses, rendering the Polder thermometer unusable. Some twisting and bending of the wire and probe is inevitable when placing a roast or turkey in the oven. I always had a spare supply in case there were any outages during Thanksgiving or the holidays. The new design is a definite…

Works great - until the wire breaks.

Bravo! I love my polder sensor and now this thing solves the problem. Buy this if this is your first time buying a polder - you will need it EDIT: It has been exactly a year since I wrote the original review and things have not gone well! I've had 2 of these and both have worked and nothing beats cooking with a probe. But then both showed the same problem - where the wire meets the cast handle, the wire will fail and in one case just fall off. Where a thin wire must come into contact with a…
