I received the plastic bags and was very unsure if they would even work. So I ran some tests. In photo #1 you can see the tiny holes in the bag when you hold it up to a light. Zoom in and take a close look. They are arranged in a grid at a distance of about 1.5 mm from each other. Because they are so small I expected them to be closer and there would be more of them too. Then I used a spoon to completely submerge the bag in a glass of water to keep it submerged, as you can see in picture 2. One, and only one, of the orange beads immediately turned green after being submerged. I let it sit for 23 minutes and saw a few balls start to turn green. Keep in mind that only the orange balls change color, so we have to assume that the transparent ones will also absorb some water. Just before removing the bag, I stirred and shook it under water, causing a few more beads to turn green. Photo #3 shows the new bag next to the one that was underwater for 23 minutes. I counted 5 beads that changed color. Using my scale, which I ONLY use to weigh postage to determine the number of stamps I need, the new pack came out weighing 5.718g, as in pic 4. I dried the outside completely. submerged in water and weighed, which turned out to be equal to 6.295g (image #5), indicating some water had been absorbed. I had to weigh the same package before and after but backdated 20/20. In summary, these bags absorb moisture. But very slowly. Maybe that's bad design. Or maybe it's specifically designed to absorb moisture over a very long period of time. I dunno, I'm not a scientist, just a guy with too much free time. Personally, I would prefer paper bags to plastic bags.
