The Perfect Background Clip

I'm a photographer and need a nearly endless range of clip sizes for backgrounds, lighting, reflectors and even attaching clothing to models. One thing I've learned is that cheap clips are a nuisance and will soon break, allowing flying debris to get into people and equipment. So I was wary of buying TEKTON 3901 Mini Spring Clips. Ten bucks for ten bucks seemed too good to be true. However, once I held them in my hands, I was pleasantly surprised at how tough these little guys were: killer spring tension and durable nylon and fiberglass handles. Not as bulletproof as my old USA made pony clips, but I know my backdrops will stay in place! At just three inches overall, these handles don't offer much leverage, so they can be difficult to open after hanging half a dozen clamps. However, the springs break and loosen up a bit with repeated use. The only problem is that the red plastic pad on the jaws comes off too easily. No problem snapping them back into place, but of course they can get lost. All in all a great deal for a great little clip.

Pros
  • Soft, non-slip grips provide control when attaching or detaching the clips
Cons
  • Out of fashion
