Review on πŸ”§ iFixit Minnow Driver Kit: 16 Precision Bits for Efficient Repair of Smartphones, Game Consoles, and Small Electronics by Nathan Tsugawa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Efficient and portable screwdriver set!

Last year I used the iFixit Essentials Toolkit to fix and update various devices and was incredibly pleased with the quality and durability of its components. It served me so well that as soon as I heard about iFixit Minnow, the pocket version of their modular screwdriver, I got my hands on it. with four Philips bits and three flat-head bits, six different Torx security bits, two tri-point screws and two pentalobe screws for opening phones and game consoles, and a stand for other phone-related uses. (As a tip, I was blown away, try prying out the blue tip of a screwdriver! It has room for three bits, as well as a phone SIM card eject tool.) All sixteen of these are included in the kit. Bits and screw handle for carrying in a hard plastic case protected by a magnetic lid that doubles as a screw tray. The Minnow screwdriver set isn't as fully featured as some of the other iFixit sets like Pro Tech. a tool kit or even some of the larger screw kits like Manta or Mako but that's not really the case. I usually carry a Phillips screwdriver in my pocket, and it comes in handy more often when working with tech than you might think, but swapping it out for a minnow has added flexibility and reliability, even if I don't need everything. in limited edition. At the very least, I have one major issue with this set, which is that the included mesh grommet seems to pop out almost every time I take out the screwdriver. Pulling the crank out of the base often brings with it mesh padding, which I largely attribute to the small gaps in the top right corner. I believe it can be attached to the sides with some sort of adhesive, and iFixit has a lifetime warranty on their products. So if it breaks, they'll presumably replace the part, but it's incredibly annoying just trying to wear your screwdriver out quickly. That issue aside, the Minnow kit is a great addition to the larger iFixit toolkit and I would recommend it to anyone who does regular repairs and/or maintenance!
