A hole punch is included to keep the paper from falling out of the bottom. You need to pull it out from the same place you inserted the paper. Also, thinner paper tends to tear rather than cut due to the action of the blade. Then, to sharpen, you have to insert the foil into the hole punch, let it squeeze, and then try to pull it out again and again with a piece of cardboard or something. It's a good idea, but bad technique. There's no way to take the punch apart (if a piece of something gets into the body of the punch, it stays there. I use mine a lot, but it might have taken 100 punches before it stopped breaking through. Then you have to trim the gap by hand. Also, you need strong pressure (you can't hold the punch in the air and get the best angle, you MUST lay it flat on a table if you're going to do more than one punch or if you want the paper to stick to is punched at a certain point). Speaking of perforating in a specific spot, there's no way to see where your paper will be perforated. Using trial and error I marked my stamp where the paper needs to be aligned to get the most stamps out of my paper because without it you end up losing about 20% of your stamps. Now I can get about 20 hits from a 12x12 sheet; before I was lucky enough to get 12.
