I had a stand alone IR heater that I used in my bedroom over the winter but it broke so I looked for other options. I liked the idea of this heater because it mounts on the wall and doesn't take up any floor space like my old heater. And since it's wall mounted, I don't have to worry about it tipping over. The heater has two power levels and once it reaches the lower limit of the set temperature it will switch to a lower heating level until it reaches the upper heating range when it switches off. This gradual heating prevents cycling between too hot and too cold, and the heater does a pretty good job of keeping the temperature within a small range. I use a timer heater so that it turns on half an hour before bed and turns off when my stove is turned on in the morning. The heater remembers the setting it was turned on when power is restored: if it was off, it stays off. If it was on, it will return to that temperature setting. I think I can shorten the life of the heater by not letting it complete a proper cooling cycle, but that's a compromise I'm willing to make. The amazing thing is that this heater is cool to the touch, even the grate. Installation is easy, the kit includes a template with a bubble level. It also has the possibility to change the calibration of the thermometer. Warning: If you mount it on an outside wall, it is likely that the temperature will be displayed incorrectly, the heater will think it is colder than it actually is and your room will overheat. If possible, place it on an interior wall. This also goes for ANY heater: NEVER use it with a splitter or extension cord and if your outlet doesn't hold plugs well. Replace the outlet before using it on a high load device like this or any other heater.
