Review on 10194A Titanium Drill Speed by Neiko by Karoly Reddick

Effortlessly cuts thin stainless steel!

This step drill arrived brand new in a sealed blister pack. I used it to cut two 3/4" holes in a thin stainless steel screw-top jar for a special project. I attached the lid to a piece of wood with Gorilla Tape so it doesn't get out of hand when I drill each hole with a standard 3/16" bit. The shank fit easily into my Ryobi 1/2" cordless drill chuck. 3/4". There were a lot of burrs and thin strips of metal on the opposite side of the stainless steel, but with the help of needle nose pliers I was able to remove everything leaving a neat but sharp edge. I'm sure this step drill works very well and cuts through thin metals, wood and plastics, but I can't comment on how well it handles thicker metal like a sink or electrical junction box etc anyway. Cutting metal of significant thickness should be done slowly and with some coolant to avoid overheating the drill and the material being cut, because even cutting this thin stainless steel heats the drill more than I expected. By the way, this is NOT made of titanium! The name and description are misleading, it is said to be plated with it but will also wear down when first drilled into thin metal however the high speed steel underneath seems up to the task. Because of my particular use of this step drill in light conditions, I recommend it.
