Amazing Blender - Small Appliances

I've been using a Breville blender for about a decade. I mainly use it for making smoothies and iced drinks. I really liked my Breville, but when it finally broke I decided to "up my game" and, after much research, got a Vitamix. Vitamix just amazed me. It has so much power that it can easily turn ice cubes into mush (a task my Breville did but struggled to pull off). The base of the mixer is made in the form of a tank. I also like the automatic "modes" which work really well. Here's a catch. Don't buy an "extended" warranty because the manufacturer's warranty is so long that even the longest "extended" warranty doesn't actually extend it! (Read the fine print!). The only negative I would like to say about this blender (besides the really high price) is its "cleaning" aspect. A lot of people are promoting it and I'm not exactly sure why. Yes, there is a "cleaning mode" if you pour in liquid and dishwashing liquid, turn it on and it "cleans itself". It's sort of an impressive salon gimmick, but it ends up being a headache. First you have to get the "volume” out yourself, then you have to fill in just the right amount of liquid. Too much and it will foam on top and mess up your counter, too little and it won't clean up the top. But even after it has "cleaned" itself, you still have to pour out the water and clean up a bit. For cleaning personally, my old Breville wins in this aspect. I could just toss it in the dishwasher and it would be perfect without any effort. Vitamix is not machine washable. Still, I love the Vitamix. Worth the high price (at least for now) and it really expands the blender's capabilities.
