This snap ring pliers set offers a large selection of the most common pin sizes and nose angles and excellent workmanship. While transitioning from inside to outside operation takes a little longer than cam action pliers offered elsewhere, it only takes about 30 seconds to remove the pivot screw and then replace the screw elsewhere to change the action, which I find perfectly acceptable does not require frequent replacement. Also, the simplicity and precision of the pan screw design compared to the "cam" design allows for smoother movement with better pin alignment than my old cam pliers (which are pretty sloppy and make it difficult to hold the locking ring). Some reviewers have complained that the pins on Lang Tools snap ring pliers aren't perfectly straight, which is true, but it's what you want and not a design or quality defect. Pliers with perfectly straight pins make it difficult to hold a compressed or stretched "open" retaining ring because the retaining ring tends to slip off the pins. By placing the pins on the pliers at a slight angle, the angle of the pins locks the retaining ring in the nose of the pliers and prevents the open retaining ring from flying off the pliers. The same angle pin design works for both internal and external locking rings as the angle effectively changes when the pliers are repositioned for internal or external action - a very smart and useful design. Thanks to this feature, as well as tight tolerances and a wide variety of pliers in the set, I've found that it's actually much easier to remove snap rings that are in hard-to-reach places. With this long set I can usually remove the locking ring right away, whereas with my old cam caliper with interchangeable pins it took me a lot of trial and error with the pin adjustment in the caliper before I was able to remove the locking ring. So for me, the long set saves time - and certainly frustration - I really hated fiddling with spare pins on my old all-in-one cam tongs. I am so happy with this Lang Tools Circlip Pliers Set that my old pliers are now in the bin.
