Worked great but then stopped

Bought this for a second home and it worked great the first time, used it a few months later and it died, replaced the battery and thought I would wouldn't have done it. I didn't shut it down properly and died again 2 weeks later. I had 4 batteries and every time it ran out I even tried taking the battery out next time and it worked once but now it doesn't work at all.
