Review on πŸ”‘ Horande Mercedes Benz Key Fob Case: Replacement Cover for E C R CL GL SL CLK SLK Smart Remote Control - 3+1 Buttons, No Chip by Ricky Mills

$15.99 saved me $376!

SITUATION: The door release button on my 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-320 FOB has completely failed. I called my local Mercedes Stealership and got a price of $422 to replace my FOB with a new one including programming! YIPES! As I still have the second key I received when I bought the new car (which is still in pristine condition) I just wanted a spare FOB. So I took a chance by buying this "Horande Replacement Key Case" to see if I could save $376! PROCEDURE: I watched half a dozen videos on how to remove the circuit board but couldn't get it to move! Circuit board damage was impossible! Since the "Open Door" button was fried, I said to screw it in and cut off the plastic (see photo). I didn't want to risk damaging the circuit board by trying to salvage a useless shell! The battery holder required a slightly different way to insert two batteries (no "latch" to release the clamps like the OEM FOB), but I managed. I put the original emergency key in the slot and it clicked perfectly. I inserted a white plastic spacer into the circuit board and it fits right into the new key fob! RESULT: I went into the garage, pushed the trunk release button and it opened instantly! Tried locking and unlocking the doors - great! Saving the best for last. It was very difficult to put the key fob in the ignition but with a little wobble it went in, turned the key and the engine started! I saved $376 and am happy to have a spare key for my Benz! . and it also has the Mercedes-Benz logo on it! The logo was sealed with black tape but peeled off immediately. It must be a copyright issue. CONCLUSION: 1) The buttons are a little "stiff" - meaning they require a little more pressure to respond than the original FOB. This can weaken over time. 2) It's REALLY close to the ignition - turning on and off. So I may try some 2000 grit sandpaper to help with the fit. DEFINITELY worth the money! Plus it only took 3 days to ship!
